How to Prep Your Car for Spring

Spring is right around the corner, which means it is almost time to say goodbye to bitter, winter weather. But don’t let that sunshine fool you: it is just as important to prepare your vehicle for spring as it is for winter.  As usual, the OneRequest team is here to help you maintain your car’s integrity and performance. Let’s get to it!

Check Wipers and Fluids

The constant cleaning of sloppy windshields from winter weather can put a serious toll on your windshield wipers. Check for tears or rips in the wiper blades, and if you find any, head to your local auto parts store for a replacement set. If you don’t see any problems with the blades, check to make sure the wipers lay flat on your windshield without any bubbles or gaps and work properly when you adjust the settings from inside your car. You don’t want to discover busted windshield wipers during that first drive through spring rain.

Car Wash Time

This step doesn’t exactly impact the performance of your car, but let’s be honest: nothing beats driving around in a shiny, clean vehicle. You can drive through a car wash or make it a fun activity this weekend for you and your family. Or better yet, have your kids wash it while you shop for your next car at www.onerequest.com

Check Those Tires

If you weren’t able to rotate your tires before winter, now’s the time. Snow, slush and winter weather potholes wreak havoc on tire treads. Plus, extreme temperature changes (yes, we are talking to you, negative 25 degrees) can decrease tire pressure. Underinflated tires not only cause unnecessary wear and tear on your tires, but they can also reduce gas mileage.

Oil Change

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: regularly get an oil change! Would you eat expired milk and moldy bread for your fuel? Well, your car shouldn’t either! Keep in mind that with modern technology, most new vehicles don’t need oil changes every 3,000 miles and instead need them every 5,000-7,000 miles. Oil changes are easy and only stand to benefit you and your vehicle.

Time to Drive

Embrace the warm weather and take your ride on a drive. Have a sunroof? Open it! Roll the windows down and crank your favorite tunes. Treat yourself and your vehicle to some much-needed Vitamin D. The sunshine and a nice drive are good for the soul (at least, that’s what we’ve heard).
