January 2022 New Cars on the Block

2022 is off to a blistering start, not unlike Le Mans in the 1950s!  Let us get right into January’s new releases!

2023 Cadillac Escalade-V

Joining Cadillac’s V performance lineup next is the Escalade-V.  Featuring a variant of the CT5-V Blackwing’s 6.2L supercharged V8, itself a derivative of the Corvette C7 Z06’s heart, the Escalade-V will come standard with well over 600 horsepower, aerodynamic upgrades, and beefier suspension and brakes.  Over 40,000 Escalades were sold in the 2021 model year and Cadillac hopes the V will find a fair number of converts and also a few that love their standard ‘Slades but are looking for just a bit more muscle.

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

The automobile world has known this was coming.  Specs were teased and predicted, but the more capable version of an already capable vehicle was as good as fact.  Well, the dino-horse has landed and brought with it a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with 400 horsepower and F150 Raptor suspension bits.  Whereas the F150 Raptor was almost exclusively designed with high-speed desert running in mind, the Bronco has been developed with rock crawling capabilities in mind.  37″ tires are standard, as is a base price just below $70k.

Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition

The Platinum Edition returns to the Cayenne lineup for 2022.  Per usual on previous Platinums, the exterior upgrades are subtle but noticeable, including a special finish for air intakes, wheels, and badging.  The interior is similar, with the occupants welcomed by special door sills and interior trim.  We are huge fans.

BMW M760i “The Last V12”

In a limited run of 12 units, BMW is sending their V12 off into retirement forever.  “The Last V12” version of the 7-series will be completely bespoke and built to spec by the lucky 12 hand-picked customers by BMW, based on the number of V12 7-Series models owned in the past.  They are lucky, indeed.

In Other News…

The Corvette is celebrating 70 years by introducing a new trim package for the 2023 model year.  White Pearl Metallic Tri-Coat and Carbon Flash Metallic are the two color options and each will have special details and badging throughout.  Stripes are optional and we expect these, like most anniversary Corvettes, to be instant collectibles.

The Challenger has been on sale since 2008 and outsold both the Mustang and Camaro in 2021.  The Stellantis group (still called Mopar when this car hit the scene 13 years ago) has made sure the Dodge brand goes against the grain, shoving their largest, most powerful engines into most of their lineup and reaping the benefits of sales despite the global chip shortage of the last year.  We recognize the future is electric but cannot hate Dodge for sending out internal combustion in a cloud of smoke.

The IIHS will issue Good/Acceptable/Marginal/Poor ratings for partially automated driving cars. The result of multiple fatalities behind the wheel of automated cars, these new safety ratings are intended to remind drivers to be attentive behind the wheel.

Who says your mail delivery driver can’t have a bit of fun too?!?  The current Grumman delivery vehicles, the newest of which was built in 1994, will begin to be replaced by these Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV) from Oshkosh Defense in the year 2023. Keep an eye out for the new vehicle in your neighborhood and a smile behind the wheel of the driver because they will now have air conditioning and airbags!  They will also have heat, birds-eye cameras, collision avoidance, and emergency braking.  Internal combustion, as well as full electric variants, will be produced.  We at OneRequest can hardly wait to see these delivering our favorite automobile periodicals!
